The pier and boat house was built in 1938 and was used as a base for fishing and salting herring until World War II. The Germans requisitioned the pier during World War II, and from October 1941 to April 1942, it was used as a prison camp for 195 Russians. 60 of them died here during this time.
The Russians who came to Uthaug were among the very first to come to Norway during World War II.
Today, the pier is a cultural gathering place for locals where concerts and festivals are held.
